10 Reasons Why Spring is the Most Delightful Season

Tulips, cute bunnies, and jean jackets are just a few reasons why spring shines in comparison to summer, fall, and winter. Here are 10 reasons why this breezy, bright season is the most delightful time of year.

More Daylight

‘Tis the season to spring forward! After the spring equinox, the days last longer and the nights get shorter. Thanks to Daylight Saving Time, there’s more sunshine to extend your day and get things done. Getting those extra sunrays is also a major mood-booster!

Moderate Temperatures

There’s nothing like the refreshing feeling of stepping outside without a puffer coat on. Spring marks the end of the freezing cold and prepares you for the sweltering summer. Studies have shown that people tend to be most comfortable in mild temperatures such as those in the 60s and 70s. We’re looking at you, spring!

Chirping Birds

Many bird species migrate south during the winter and head north when temperatures rise. For those northern regions, there’s no better indicator of springtime than birds chirping outside your window. Seeing different kinds of birds can also be good for your mental health. Get your binoculars ready! It’s time to go bird-watching!

Baby Animals

Baby bunnies and ducklings and chipmunks, oh my! Studies have found that seeing cute animals can have positive effects on your mood. Being able to watch frolicking fluffy squirrels outside your window can put you in good spirits and that’s surely a great way to start the day.

Blooming Flowers

Flowers are the ultimate symbol of springtime. When you see them in bloom, you know warmer days are ahead. Simply being in the presence of flowers was found to elevate mood, increase feelings of satisfaction, and promote positive social behavior. That’s a lot of power for a pot of pansies!

Trees with Leaves

With brighter days come green gardens and flourishing plants. Depending on your location, trees may begin sprouting leaves as early as mid-March. This growth ensures a shady canopy to protect you from the beaming sun, which can be a huge factor in staying comfortable on a hot day. What’s more, when trees release water back into the air through evapotranspiration, it can cool down the areas around them by up to nine degrees.

Fresh Produce

Asparagus, peas, artichokes, and other nutritious veggies are freshest in the spring. Not only are fruits and vegetables great for your body, but they’re also good for your soul. A 2016 study of more than 12,000 Australians found that when people increased the amount of fruits and vegetables in their diets, they felt happier and had higher rates of satisfaction. Eating healthy has so many lively benefits, so be on the lookout for local farmers’ markets!

Outdoor Exercise

While it’s important to keep your body moving no matter the season, studies show that working out is more beneficial if you do it outside. Research found that compared with indoor exercise, taking your physical activities outdoors comes with increased energy levels and decreased tension, among other positive side effects. People who exercised in the fresh air also said they enjoyed the experience more and would likely repeat it. There’s nothing endorphins can’t do!

More Vitamin D

With the return of sunshine on your skin, your vitamin D levels should start to rise. Your body is designed to get the vitamin D it needs by producing it when your bare skin is exposed to the sun. That said, be sure to get out and soak up the sunshine!

Open Windows

Nothing compares to opening your windows for some fresh air. Letting in the breeze is an important way to ventilate indoor spaces, and according to the EPA, a lack of ventilation can lead to an unhealthy concentration of indoor pollutants from sources such as cleaning product fumes, furniture, and stoves. Spring brings the opportunity to swing open those windows to get the air flowing through your home.
